Commitment to inclusion and respect; support to those affected by Orlando attack

June 16, 2016

After the shocking attacks in Orlando, the University of Mississippi community has come together to support and comfort those directly affected by this tragic event. Whether because of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or any other unique difference, hate has no place in our community or the larger society.

As a community committed to the values of inclusion and respect, our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible act of violence. We grieve with you.

The members of the Oxford Muslim Society and the university’s Muslim Student Association also condemn this horrific action and affirm that there is no justification or excuse for such a senseless act of hate. They too send their thoughts and condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and injured.

No one should feel unsafe or unsupported at a difficult time like this. The university would like to remind LGBTQ, Muslim, Latino/Latina and all other campus community members of university policies and of the resources available should they be needed.
